Shopping for high-end audio kit in 2025 is a bit like joining a wine club run by robots. There’s enthusiasm, sure - but also a lot of jargon, a lot of numbers, and a creeping suspicion that someone, somewhere, is enjoying the joke a little too much. Fortunately, the team at Advanced MP3 Players (AMP3) has been around long enough to know when to lean in and when to let you browse in peace. Their site is a kind of digital hi-fi temple, with everything from nostalgia-fuelled cassette players to DACs more powerful than your work laptop. And now, it has deals. Because even audiophiles like a discount.
Nothing says "I miss rewinding with a pencil" quite like a new cassette player. The FiiO CP13 is an unapologetically retro unit - it plays tapes, and that’s about it. No Bluetooth, no USB-C, not even a screen. But it’s built with care and, crucially, doesn’t sound like a shoebox full of bees. At over £100, it’s not cheap, but then again, neither is irony. If you know someone who alphabetises their mixtapes, this is their moment.
Westone’s W10 v2s are single-driver IEMs with a detachable Bluetooth module, which sounds more exciting than it is. They’re technically solid, with a warm, inoffensive tuning and a snug fit that doesn’t punish your ears over time. The deal price (£179.99) makes them a bit more competitive, but they’re still up against multi-driver rivals with more sparkle. Still, if you want competent sound with the option to go wired or wireless, they’re worth a look - as long as you’re not expecting to be spiritually moved.
Calling this a "media player" is a bit like calling a Tesla "a car." The FiiO R9 is a desktop unit that handles streaming, decoding, amplification, and possibly your existential crisis. It’s overkill for most people, which is part of the charm. Android-based and fully balanced, it’s clearly designed for the sort of person who insists on 32-bit FLACs and owns more headphones than shoes. At nearly £1,400, it’s not what you’d call an impulse buy - but then again, neither is taste.
The DX340 is one of those devices that seems to exist to answer a question no one asked: what if your DAP was a modular, Android-powered slab of sonic excess? It’s heavy, fussy, and oddly loveable. The iBasso ecosystem includes swappable amp cards, which is either ingenious or exhausting, depending on your mood. Sonically, it’s clean and expansive, but the UI can feel like a minor act of resistance. Still, at £1,499, you’re buying into a philosophy as much as a product. Possibly one involving spreadsheets.
Not everything on AMP3 costs more than your rent. The FiiO KB1K mechanical keyboard (£11.99) is a compact, tactile oddity that’s oddly enjoyable, if you can find a use for it. And the JA11 Dongle DAC (£9.99) is a competent little unit that will make your phone sound less like a tin can. Both are cheap, cheerful, and surprisingly well made - proof that not all audio gear needs a second mortgage.
There’s a certain dignity in placing your £1,300 headphones on a glass skull stand (£28.50). It’s a product that says, "Yes, I listen to lossless jazz fusion, and yes, I do it in style." Similarly, the AMP3 Luxury Glass Head stand (£26.99) offers support - both emotional and structural - for your headgear. Functional? Yes. Slightly ridiculous? Also yes. But then again, that’s half the fun of this hobby.
AMP3 has been around since 2001, which in tech retail is practically ancient. They know their stuff, and it shows. The site isn’t flashy, but it’s detailed, honest, and occasionally weird in the best way. Whether you’re after a Bluetooth DAC, a flagship player, or just a cable that won’t break in a week, there’s plenty to explore - and a few deals worth noting. Just don’t expect fireworks. Expect function, with a knowing wink.
