Brexit sees surge of interest in direct access barristers

Brexit has pushed many small businesses to seek legal advice but they are increasingly snubbing solicitors in favour of direct access barristers.

Advice on the business implications of Brexit has been logged as one of the top five requests on the Bar Council’s direct access portal.

The online portal allows qualified barristers to reach public and business clients without the traditional need for solicitor intervention.

Bar Council chairwoman, Chantal-Aimée Doerries, QC, said:

“Direct access allows anyone to go straight to a barrister where their case or legal problem is suited to that type of approach. The point of direct access is that it creates more choice for those who need a legal professional to help them and allows them access to the specialist skills of a barrister.”
