Call it the great irony of modern menswear: in an era where your average hoodie could pass for avant-garde sculpture if placed in a gallery, a quiet surge in minimalism is doing the heavy lifting in actual wardrobes. Somewhere between tactical nylon cargo trousers and logo-drenched streetwear, a handful of brands still believe that clothing should look and feel like… well, clothing. Enter Ten c - a label that would politely decline to shout over the noise, largely because it's too busy perfecting the weight of a canvas weave or re-dyeing the same jacket eight times.

Ten c: Technical Romance for the Hopelessly Practical

For the uninitiated, Ten c is short for The Emperors New Clothes - which, if nothing else, suggests a healthy amount of self-awareness. This isn’t a brand looking to dazzle with gimmicks or churn out seasonal logos; it’s rooted firmly in the kind of obsessive Italian garment construction usually reserved for military nerds and menswear purists. Prices are not low. But unlike a lot of fashion at this level, at least here you can see some evidence of where the money went.

Among the new arrivals at EQVVS is the £879 Shadow Dyed Short Jacket, the kind of outerwear that tends to attract words like "investment piece." It’s both overbuilt and understated - quietly impressive, assuming you get close enough to notice the nuanced hand-dyeing and meticulous seamwork. Granted, for that price, you could also book a weekend for two in Lisbon. But you can’t wear Lisbon on a rainy commute.

Rounding out the latest Ten c drop: a Mineral Garment Dyed Polo Shirt (£175), a Garment Dyed Tee (£155), and an Airbrushed Garment Dyed Sweatshirt (£305). All are impeccably constructed, all come in the sort of near-anonymous earthtones you'd expect from a design team suspicious of neon. Great if you like your clothes to be quietly confident. Less helpful if you're after something that will get you photographed outside the Louvre during Fashion Week.

Mid-Season Sale, Mild Enthusiasm

If the sticker shock is giving you pause, EQVVS currently has a Mid-Season Sale on with "up to 50% off" select items. The catch, as always, is that "up to" can cover a multitude of sins - including a few uninspiring discounts on less-than-stellar stock. Still, it’s worth a browse if you can stomach the usual barrage of drop-down filters. There are occasional solid picks from brands like ARIES, Norse Projects, and Carhartt WIP tucked between the less thrilling markdowns.

Shipping is, at least, refreshingly efficient. Orders over £150 qualify for free next-working-day delivery in the UK. Otherwise, standard delivery will run you £6.99 for a 2–3 day wait, and next-day via DPD is similarly functional, assuming you place your order by 4pm. If you happen to return something, the refund process is said to be painless. A rare and underrated luxury in itself.

Don’t Buy It for TikTok

This kind of clothing - particularly in Ten c’s case - won’t rake in likes on social media, or prompt your friends to ask what brand you’re wearing. That's not a bug; it's the point. These are garments for people who don't need their outfits to start conversations, mostly because those people are already trying to avoid them. And while that might sound a little sombre, it’s an oddly refreshing gear shift in a world of increasingly performative consumption.

Also, the £305 sweatshirt is, in an odd way, comforting. Not because it’s soft (it is) - but because it proves that someone, somewhere, cared enough to make something quietly excellent. Which might not solve your decision fatigue, but could at least make dressing feel marginally less like a chore.

Codes, Coupons, and Other Frugal Ambitions

Signing up to the EQVVS newsletter lands you 10% off full-priced items, though some brands are excluded - Ten c almost certainly among them. Still, for anything else not wrapped in Italian garment dye mystique, it’s an easy win. Students and key workers get discounts as well, provided they’re willing to navigate a mildly convoluted verification process.

If you’re the kind of shopper who keeps screenshots of promo codes, the site supports those too. Just don’t expect miracles - this isn’t a warehouse clearance depot. And that’s probably for the best. Some things shouldn’t be found in the back of a digital bargain bin.

Verdict: Come for the Jacket, Stay for the Existential Clarity

You won’t leave EQVVS with a haul that feels like a holiday. You might, however, leave with a sense that not everything on the internet is synthetic, deadline-driven seratonin bait. Sometimes, there’s a hoodie that fits just right. Or a jacket that feels built for multiple lifetimes, not just next Thursday’s playlist drop.

And on certain days, that’s enough.
