Somewhere between an overstuffed ASOS cart and a half-used bottle of salicylic acid toner lies the reality of modern skincare shopping. It's a collision of pseudo-scientific claims, seasonal discount codes, and enough "hydrating elixirs" to fill a small municipal reservoir. Face the Future, a UK-based skincare retailer with a clinical slant, tries to bring a level of order - or at least structure - to the chaos. Whether it fully succeeds is open to polite interpretation.
One of the more grounded initiatives here is the 365 Days of SPF campaign. Face the Future is forgoing VAT (~20%) on key sunscreen brands through October, making these products marginally more affordable - assuming you’re resolute enough to reapply every two hours, in line with dermatologist advice most of us nod at and ignore. This ties into the wider VAT Burn movement, which lobbies for sunscreen to be considered a healthcare essential. A rare blend of commerce and public good, if you squint.
Coming soon to a virtual checkout near you is The Prep & Prime Edit, a curated set of skin, hair, and body care products that aims to jolt you out of your wintry skin slump. The marketing promises "salon-quality strands" and "buffed and beautiful bodies" - phrasing that teeters on the edge of spa brochure poetry. Still, these seasonal edits can be a tactical buy if you like a pre-selected mix of trending essentials without navigating page 12 of the cleanser category. Pre-orders are open now, priced to suggest a deal, though actual contents (and real-world results) will vary by expectation, skin type, and philosophy on "radiance."
Rodial, known for combining biotech buzzwords with dramatic packaging and the occasional snake venom peptide, is currently up to 25% off. Founded by a former beauty editor in 1999, the brand plays in that "premium active" zone - not quite prescription-strength, but intense enough to raise an eyebrow. Caudalie is also on offer - another brand with a serious-looking lab coat over a flowery dress. Its grape-derived antioxidants are the star here, and the results are generally pleasant if not life-altering.
Elsewhere, you’ll find 10% off Totally Derma (pioneers in collagen drinks, or so they say), 15% off Neostrata (chemical exfoliants with a fanbase), and perpetual incentives like 15% for students, new app users, and the "Skinsider" loyalty program - equal parts savings scheme and marketing funnel. There's even a Prime-style delivery option for £9.99 a year, ideal if you restock SPF like it’s toothpaste (which, to be fair, it should be).
Face the Future also leans into the more technical end of skincare, offering online skin and hair tests, ingredient breakdowns like glycolic acid deep dives, and men’s products that dare to mix beard balm with actual moisturiser. Viral TikTok buys also get their corner, because resistance to social media trends is low, and bootleg aesthetician advice is high.
Face the Future isn’t revolutionary, but it's coherent. If you're the kind of person who needs a familiar interface, the occasional flash of science, and a reason not to overspend on a serum with "Glow" in the name, it'll do the job. Just don’t expect miracles - or your free sample of Miracle Cream to actually change your skin overnight.
Still, if you're going to drop £75 to unlock a mystery gift (another incentive floated here), it might as well come alongside SPF that isn’t being taxed like it’s a bottle of Prosecco.
