Andrew has over 10 years’ experience advising corporates and trustees on the full range of pensions issues across advisory, transactional and contentious matters.
Defined benefit (DB) pension schemes continue to cause major headaches for UK corporates due to their potential negative impact on cashflow and by limiting a company's ability to engage in wider corporate activity - the consequence is that pension schemes are often a key stakeholder in a business and regularly appear as board level agenda items. Andrew has developed a practice focused on assisting sponsors of DB schemes in managing the legal and regulatory risks associated with these arrangements through scheme closures, benefit redesign proposals (such as limiting pensionable pay increases), the associated employment and consultation aspects of these changes and other liability management exercises. He also has extensive experience in assisting clients with the growth of defined contribution (DC) arrangements, such as the introduction of mastertrusts, pensions governance vehicles, and life assurance schemes as well as helping clients comply with recent changes to the pensions tax regime and the introduction of pensions auto-enrolment.
Andrew joined Doyle Clayton in May 2017 from a Magic Circle practice having previously worked in a leading mid-market London firm. He is praised by clients for the ability to deliver complex pensions advice in simple, plain English terms and has been recognised in Legal 500 as 'knowing his stuff on pensions, and getting to the heart of the matter commercially'.
