Jonathan was called to the Bar in 2005, having previously attained a first class degree from Durham University. During his legal studies, he was awarded the James Bushell memorial scholarship and the Hardwicke award by Lincoln’s Inn. Since joining ip21 in 2006 he has attained the Certificate in Intellectual Property from Queen Mary College, London. He is a European Trade Mark Attorney and Design Attorney as well as being a member of CIPA and AIPPI.
Jonathan has a broad-based, highly international practice, encompassing patents, trade marks, designs, copyright and associated transactions. His clients include a large multi-national software company, an established international retail chain, a medical devices PLC, a defence company, one of Europe’s largest beauty products manufacturers and a high pressure ceramics casting company.
Ongoing applications include elements of cryptocurrency technology, blockchain, fintech, insurtech and agritech as well as more conventional mechanical and electrical engineering work.
Jonathan regularly talks at universities and to technology organisations, including UCL / IDEALondon, Norwich University of the Arts, Centrum, Cocoon Networks, the WeWork organisation and at Somerset House, as well as to numerous new-technology groups. He is a substantial contributor to the London start-up scene and is passionate about fostering IP knowledge in new business.
