About Max

I established Tebbitts & Co in 2010 as a niche practice working in the fields of business and commercial law. Prior to this I worked as a solicitor in commercial law and litigation.

Tebbitts & Co advises on business matters including commercial contracts such as partnership agreements, agency agreements, terms and conditions of trade, franchise agreements, website terms and conditions, intellectual property licence agreements, trade marks, software development agreements, technology and broadcasting agreements, among others.

The firm’s corporate services include business sales and acquisitions, shareholder and cross-option agreements. Tebbitts & Co specialises in buying and selling businesses. Over the last 12 months it has acted in a wide range of transactions including an education training business, motor engineering businesses, dental practices and others. The firm works collaboratively with leading accountants and business transfer agents.

With its debt recovery work the firm believes in a proactive approach and while some debts can be recovered with a letter or a phone call, it will, where necessary, commence legal proceedings on a creditor’s behalf with a claim for interest, costs and compensation under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts Regulations.

Employment law is rapidly changing and there are many challenges ahead for HR directors, managers and business owners. The firm helps businesses with the development and implementation of policies and procedures that are compliant with current legislation and best practice. It also assists with the preparation and drafting of staff handbooks.

The work requires a significant understanding of, and aptitude for, the business and commercial world which has been developed over many years of experience working for a wide range of clients.

I have worked on large contracts for public sector clients, corporate matters for SMEs, finance companies, retail outlets, brewers, public companies, children’s nurseries, banks, insurance companies, individuals, technology companies, construction companies, debt recovery companies, recruitment companies, landlords, telecom and information technology companies, software companies, manufacturers, printers and several other sectors.

Current interests include squash and running.

About their firm

Tebbitts & Co is a small business law practice with an independent spirit. Max Tebbitts is a solicitor with over 15 years’ professional experience, prior to which he spent a number of years working in commercial and legal roles in industry. For this reason the firm approaches the business world with a strong commercial awareness. The firm views its role as a facilitator in enabling things to happen and sees it as important to remain aware of the overall objectives of a transaction. With commercial legal issues it is sometimes necessary to strike a delicate balance among a number of critical issues and Tebbitts & Co is trusted by its clients to take the right approach.

The firm's client base increases at a rapid pace because of our efficient, client-focused service. As a commercial legal firm it has an eye on the figures and always bear in mind what makes commercial sense to the client. Quoting their website:

  • We focus on business related legal services. By focusing on commercial law we will maintain our expertise in debt recovery, commercial agreements, employment law, company law, intellectual property and landlord and tenant. These areas are inter-linked and a commercial adviser is best equipped with a knowledge of all these areas.
  • As a small but focused firm we will be responsive and treat all our clients as individuals acknowledging each has different requirements. We have the scope and ability to be innovative as part of the objective of achieving the best outcome for each client.
  • We specialise in providing legal help for Small to Medium Sized Enterprises, and are experienced in all types of businesses including brewers, nurseries, care homes, restaurants, manufacturers, insurance firms, agencies, builders
The firm has longstanding relationships with existing clients spanning across individuals, SMEs and plcs. Without heavy City overheads the firm’s fees are competitive, which is another reason for its popularity.

I was really pleased with the service I received. I needed assistance regarding a telecom complain and drafting a letter. He took time to understand all the issues before drafting and sending the complain. His letter helped finally for the company to acknowledge my complain which was ignored before. He has also advised me on the possible outcomes and actions that could be taken further. Highly recommend!

Max's reply:
Many thanks for your kind remarks; much appreciated. If you require any other business legal services in the future, do contact us and we would be more than happy to help where we can.
