Paul has wide ranging experience in many areas of law, but specialises in dispute resolution, insolvency and intellectual property work. He has experience in dealing with high value contentious matters ranging from directors’ and shareholders’ disputes to contractual and tortious disputes. Paul adopts a pragmatic and commercial approach to all matters, cutting through the emotion that can often cloud judgements and ensuring that Clients’ commercial interests are kept firmly at the forefront of his instruction.
Having been trained in a niche commercial firm, Paul has a breadth of experience the envy of many of his peers. He can advise on all types of business dispute; from contractual disputes and shareholders disputes, to intellectual property infringement and insolvency. His experience allows to him to recognise the commercial impact of any form of litigation, providing him with the insight and drive to push towards early settlement for the benefit of the client as often as possible.
As Director heading up the commercial litigation team, Paul's style is one of approachability. He prides himself on being accessible to people from all walks of life, and can communicate as effectively with the CEO of a multimillion pound international business as he can with an individual with a small consumer issue. His knowledge of the law and ability give his clients the confidence to know that they are being represented by one of the best in the North West. He is also a strong advocate for the firm's approach of becoming "one of your team", building strong, lasting relationships of trust and confidence with Clients, which is reflected in the fact that Paul receives instructions from Clients he met more than 10 years ago who have followed him from firm to firm throughout his career.
Paul obtained his honours degree in law from Lancaster University, his postgraduate diploma in legal practice from the College of Law in Chester (now the University of Law) and also has a Masters Degree in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Manchester.
Mounteney Solicitors have been practising since 2005 as one of the north west regions leading legal providers of commercial and private legal services.
The practice principal, Jonathan Mounteney, recognised in 2005 a need for cost effective legal services that focused on providing value for money and a quality service rather than a traditional 'hourly rate' approach. This unique method of offering fixed fee services for something other firms would charge an hourly fee for is attractive to Clients and allows our solicitors to focus on the quality of the service provided, rather than limiting the time spent on a matter to control a time-costed bill.
With a background in various major city firms and internationally reknown blue chip companies as in-house counsel, Jonathan has attracted a strong team of equally talented city lawyers, all who share in his ethos of a reasonable fee for a quality service.
Paul has been great to work with and offered a very professional and thorough service. We would definitely use him in the future if required and recommend him for legal advice and support.
