The Eternal Chore of Buying a Printer
Few things spark as much reluctant decision-making as buying a printer. It ranks somewhere between selecting health insurance and choosing a broadband provider - necessary, often confusing, and occasionally laced with regret. At least with Printerland.co.uk, the UK’s largest online printer reseller, the experience is mostly stripped of unnecessary sparkle. And that, frankly, is a refreshing change of pace.
Printerland’s site is direct. It doesn’t try to reframe your laser printer as a lifestyle choice. That's a point in its favour. Instead, it opts for old-school transparency, listing thousands of printers and accessories with the blunt efficiency of someone who's been doing this since at least the dawn of dial-up. There’s no slick app, no loyalty pyramid, just ink, toner, hardware - and a steady stream of discounts that may actually be worth your time.
The Deals: Mostly Real, Occasionally Interesting
Let’s not pretend printers are fun - they exist to convert PDFs into something you can initial and file, or ignore for six months. So when Printerland knocks a third off the price of the Xerox B230 A4 Mono Laser Printer, now £83.25 (ex VAT), it's not exactly exciting, but it is useful. The B230 is compact and frankly beige in behaviour. But as mono laser printers go, it prints... in mono. Reliably, quickly, and without flair. The inclusion of a 3-year on-site warranty is almost audaciously generous – relatively speaking. Plus, you get free next day delivery if you order by 4:30pm, which means your printer can arrive tomorrow and be collecting dust on your desk by Friday.
The HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e is another so-called "best-seller," currently £113.99 before tax. It's a colour inkjet multifunction with support for HP+, a subscription service that is either delightfully automated or an overly clever way to make you commit to HP forever. You do get a free 3-month Instant Ink trial, which means you’ll stop paying for ink just in time to remember how expensive ink is.
EcoTech or EcoGuilt?

Epson’s EcoTank ET-2862, now £133.97 ex VAT, deserves light praise for doing something inkjets generally fail at - reducing running costs to half a pence per colour page. Instead of cartridges, it uses refillable ink tanks, and ships with enough ink for what Epson claims is 3.6K black and 6.5K colour pages. You won’t need to buy more ink until it’s time to repot your house plants.
Of course, refilling ink tanks doesn't spark joy unless you're someone who repaints radiators for fun. The bottles are easy enough to use, but you’ll still find yourself checking twice to avoid turning your desk into a Jackson Pollock.
Big Biz Means Bigger Toners
If you're shopping for an office-sized solution, the Kyocera ECOSYS M5526cdw at £395.75 (ex VAT) is a surprisingly competent alternative to a more expensive headache. Kyocera clings to its "lowest running costs in its class" badge like a teenager holding onto their GCSE certificates, but this time the claim has legs. Toner is long-lasting and less extortionate than it looks. You also get a 2-year on-site warranty, during which time it’s unlikely the machine will require any human interaction besides the occasional jam clearing.
For more serious A3 printing, the Kyocera ECOSYS M8124cidn hovers dangerously close to £1,600 (inc VAT). At that price, you could buy a decent second-hand hatchback. But the printer might actually last longer.
The Printerland Philosophy: Low Drama, Mild Perks
Printerland’s real edge isn’t hidden in deep discounts or buzzy branding - it’s in logistics. Order before 4:30pm and most printers arrive the next day, for free, as long as your order hits £125+ (ex VAT). That’s a quietly remarkable thing in an era where many "next day" deliveries involve a flexible interpretation of both "next" and "day."

Returns are straightforward. You’re encouraged to read T&Cs, which is basically the e-commerce equivalent of a doctor telling you to get more sleep. Refunds are handled without mystery, but be prepared to contact the call centre - which, to their credit, still answers the phone in about three rings. Speaking to a real human without a chatbot intermediary is oddly satisfying in 2025.
Printerland Isn’t Sexy. That’s Probably the Point
The appeal of Printerland is its unshakable mediocrity - in a good way. No frills, no fluff, just basics done well. The printers here won’t win design awards, but they do turn on, connect to Wi-Fi (eventually), and deal with 80gsm paper like they've been trained for it all their lives.
This is the opposite of Silicon Valley disruption. Nobody is trying to make printers minimalist or social or subscription-exclusive (except, grudgingly, HP). There are no slick photoshoots on the homepage, no soft launches or TikTok-ready promo codes. Just working hardware, predictable shipping, and occasional discounts that aren't insulting to your wallet.
So, is Printerland thrilling? Absolutely not. But if you’re tired of scrolling through identical laptops and hipster light bulbs on curated deal sites, then yes - deeply, almost soothingly practical. And at £99 for a Xerox that doesn’t complain, it might just be the most satisfying shopping experience you’ll forget by next week.
